Shortly after learning the concept „
Atia- the spirit of orio®dance” Basmah (www.basmah.de)
wrote the following statement:
I learned the brand new concept from
Ehab Atia as one of his first attendees.
Due to the concept it was really easy to
create new choreographies, to dance on
the loose; you mix and match the various
elements and get interesting
combinations as a result. This concept
is pure dancing!
I had the feeling that I was able to
broaden my dancing spectrum with this
concept. In the past I was often
thinking whether one combination would
be better then another; today I know:
hey, you can try it like this or like
that or, or, or… . I am much better
aware of all my opportunities. New ideas
are crossing my mind quite spontaneously
– without having to dance or listen to
any music.
That’s why it is now a lot easier for me
to improvise. And if I am working on a
new choreography, I create the perfect
match quite quickly, without any effort.
I really have the opportunity to flavour
my dance each time with different “spices”.
Basmah added the following
thoughts to her statement:
The concept is really ingenious – easy
and resourceful – so that everyone can
learn the contents in just a couple of
hours. It affects your dance at once -
on the conscious level as well as
subconscious. For example you can see
quite clearly what someone else is
dancing, without even having to think of
it.
As it is a dance-concept and not a
technical one, you can easily find out
your individual rooms for improvement
and consequently work on it.
Thanks to the concept it is really
simple to diversify your improvisations
and choreographies.
When I give lessons or get ready for a
course it is much easier to create
plenty of different combinations in just
a couple of minutes without loosing
track of all possible topics.
Sometimes I compare the richness of
movements in the oriental dance with a
big bowl of fruits. Due to the concept
you can see each fruit on its own, but
at the same time you have various
possibilities to create your favourite
fruit salad!
The only disadvantage: after
experiencing the concept you might feel
underchallenged at any regular course or
workshop! ;-)
Renate W. explains her experience with
the concept „ Atia- the spirit of
orio®dance” as follows:
Since I have learned the concept I can
memorise choreographies a lot easier as
I can picture the general scheme of the
programme.
I know more possible figures, have a
bigger repertoire and recall the
combinations as well as the general
course of action more easily.
I feel more secure in dancing, because I
experienced, that I can call up
spontaneous ideas.
The concept offers suggestions for
symbols of how to write down a dance; as
a result my notes are absolutely clear –
even if I read them a couple of days
later. And as I had the impression that
some of my own symbols were more
concrete then the ones given, I changed
them and increased my personal level of
transparency.
Together with another dancer I wrote
down our planned choreography, using the
symbols of the concept. In our training
it was really easy to dance straight to
the music while the complete
choreography was in our hands. That way
we internalised our ideas quite
efficiently.
